Actually, I've heard the reasons why mars is a better bet as far as
long-term colonizing is concerned, As far as I can tell, the only thing that Mars has over the moon is availability of carbon and nitrogen, and somewhat better availability of hydrogen. On the other hand, being several hundred times closer to the only presently existing markets in the Solar System has got to count for something.
