GREETINGS FROM A NEW MENBER & IDEAS FOR THE ATMOSPHERE IN ISLAND ON

Savage argues that a 1/3 bar pure oxygen atmosphere would represent as much
of a fire hazard as our 1 bar atmosphere with 1/3 of oxygen content. The
pressure of the *oxygen* would be the same in both cases, and people could
breath normally and produce fires that would burn normally. My understanding is that his argument that lowered heat conductivity in a lower pressure atmosphere reduces the fire risk was actually backwards. Lowered conductivity means less heat being carried away from the fire, which means greater risk. However, I don't know if there are experiments done with low-pressure pure
oxygen atmospheres confirming that. Could anyone supply additional
information? I'd love to see some experiments on this, but NASA is unlikely to do them, as enormous pressurized volumes in space (at least on the scale O'Neill and Savage wrote about) just aren't part of their future plans.
