One thing that strikes me as I look at the prices on http://www.chemicool.com/elements/ is just how expensive the platinum group metals (PGMs) are. Clearly, the prices of these metals fluctuate daily, and the numbers quoted there are only ballpark figures, but just consider the numbers!
Osmium, $77000/kg
Iridium, $42000/kg
Rhodium, $130000/kg
Recall that PGMs are relatively plentiful in asteroids as compared to the surface of the Earth.
How low do launch prices have to be before return of PGMs to Earth becomes economically viable?
