I find the IBIS format it uses for discussions have
advantages over yahoo type mailing lists.
For example, they remove the pressure to reply before
the threads get cold or stale. I must confess this
has definitely affected my writing style. I find in
the IBIS discussions I am able to take a more studied
and methodical approach, allowing more reasoned and
objective discussion, instead of knee-jerk type
responses.

The IBIS discussions are there as a more or less
permanent record of the thought process. Rather like
a built in FAQ. It also avoids the problems of
threads repeating themselves and rehashing old ground
as new people join in every few months.

The IBIS discussions are a great reference resource,
and as they expand could become a powerful aid to
researchers in space development.

Many of the topics discussed on SSI list have also
been addressed at innertransit, but the web site
allows
you to see at a glance the status of all the
discussions, and IMHO is very efficient at
communicating complex ideas and thought processes.
