I guess so - or at least Savage discuss such shields and argues that they
are perfectly doable. However, he was writing about larger payloads, and I
don't know what would be the behavior of "soda cans" in the same conditions.
I'm specially concerned about stability and air drag (considering the low
mass-to-surface ratio of a "soda can" payload) while passing through the
atmosphere. But, again, that is just my intuition speaking, I'm a nullity in
aerodynamics.
