The launcher could also be like in some 50s scifi movie, In a semi parabolic curve going down a slope, Mounted on a sled powered by jet engines perhaps, racing across valley then up the other slope, the sled falls away and the ship flies to orbit.

Up until the surplus V2 were used, this was a serious concept for a launcher.

I think it had no military value so it wasn't funded. Maglev, EMF pulses, rocket sleds, rubber bands for that matter, are good choices because they are something we can reasonably expect to build.

You could use induction coils to heat water sealed in a pressure vessel to super-critical temperature, then release it into a launch tube. Again you have a carrier style catapult writ large.
