I don't think I have time to discuss the issues in much detail. Of course a
crucial issue is what is meant by "... nation." Another important issue is
what can be communicated and imported. For example, if they can import
medicines, then the colony won't need a pharmaceutical industry. If they
can't, but can still get information on how to manufacture them, then they
need pharmaceutical production but not research. The same idea can be
extended to electronic chips, entertainment, and so on. Information
exchange would be easy and cheap, but may not be desired by all who would
want to colonize. This a good topic to discuss but the issues get complex
based on non-specified assumptions, and so I am going to leave it there.
