SPS versus other energy sources

I agree with your statement, but with the following proviso, that
SPS with no space infrastructure or space industry in orbit will
never compete on price with the two aforementioned energy sources.

Now, in a FANTASY WORLD, where both the oil industry and the nuclear
industry had to be developed from scratch, I would have doubts as to
whether SPS could never compete on price.

If in the future, by some unforeseen circumstances, a space
industry/infrastructure can develop that the SPS isn't responsible
for, then do you still hold your two statements to be true?

Let's say, a decade from now, earth governments are scared by the
very near miss of a NEO, and decide to industrialize space and
create colonies off-planet, yada yada yada. Now we have
infrastructure/industry out there and SPS can be a free rider on the
existing facilities, much like oil and nuclear are in today's
economy.
