It's true. Most people just don't know. Most people, if you say
to them "space settlements" or "settlements in space" will start
thinking of domes on Mars or something like the USS Enterprise
carrying settlers from one planet to another.
living in it in space. Not on Mars or any planet."
Now they think of people living out their whole lives on board the
Enterprise, or something like ISS. If you are really lucky, they
will think of Babalon 5. Only if they are from Japan (or an anime
fan outside of Japan, of course) will they have any idea what
a "habitat" or "colony" is, because of Gundum. Unfurtunately, even
Gundum is less about settling the High Frontier and more about
warfare and giant robots. We need to do better.
What I Want:
More images, and not just on websites (which are only visited by
people turned on to the subject already) or available as posters once
in a blue moon through catalogs that only we would even know about
(much less buy anything out of), but posters available in every
science-fiction/gaming/comic/anime/whatever else store in the
country. And on T-shirts. And jigsaw puzzles. Maybe even bedsheets.
I want a comic book, aimed at older children and younger
teenagers. Humanity is just starting to break out into space, and
the bad guys are trying to stop it. The hero or heroes fight the bad
guys and protect the High Frontier. If it gets popular, then I also
want an animated TV show, aimed at the same audience. Perhaps a team
of five superheroes, the L-5? L-Force Five, Defenders of the High
Frontier! If the TV show gets popular, there can be a movie.
I want video games with a High Frontier theme. Some of these
caould be based on the space sports at
Any other ideas?
