Nice to meet you, Seagull, and welcome to Space Settlers... This is in fact
a special welcome, since you're the first member of the group besides myself
(the founder). I was feeling kind of lonely here ;-)...

Indeed. Also, USENET, despite its pioneering role in creating discussion
groups in the Internet, is nowadays something perhaps too academic and of
not-so-broad access. For instance, I'm subscribed to two service providers
here in Brazil and none of them provides access to USENET - only to their
own news servers with their own groups with Portuguese as the default
language. I had access to USENET only when I was still at the University,
where USENET is kept for academic reasons...

Therefore, I was aware of the existence of this kind of discussion in the
USENET, but since I had not access to it, I decided to look for something at
EGroups. Then, I was astonished to find out that, even considering the vast
amount of groups in English, there is no specific e-group about space
settlements - although there are maybe half a dozen groups on Mars
terraformation. I was really disappointed with that situation, and therefore
I decided to start a group by myself.

By the way, if you know other fellows through the Internet that are likely
to enjoy participating of this e-group, would you please invite them? I'm
really excited about finally having someone to talk to ;-), but I think that
we are still far from reaching a "critical mass" for discussions...
