1998 to be exact! :) Thanks mostly to communication
industry. Though in the recent downturn, I believe
this statistic has reversed. I *think* only 5 or so
comm sats have been ordered this year. A far cry from
the mid-20s which were ordered back in the boom
years...

And as the launch industry is roughly 1-2 years behind
the commsat industry (due to length of time it takes
to build a sat), I do not see this trend reversing
until at least mid-decade, at the very earliest.
