Because these robots will have to travel free range over the area of
the base I thought that microwave beaming from a small tower would
be the ideal energy source. There would be solar cells collecting
the energy which would then be converted to microwave.

I thought about onboard fuel cells but preferred fewer instances of
machinary (one power source rather than many fuel cells), less mass
and bulk for each robot to carry, less complication in the refueling
process, etc.
