Coherency of the message of SPS development

Please correct me if I am simply unaware of materials
out there. Todate I have had the problem of directing
people who are interested in global solutions of all
types to articles or books about SPS that they would
be receptive of. SPS seems to dredge up a lot of
baggage really quick from any one of these items:

- Human Colonization of space is a giant turnoff to
people interested in solving the problems on earth.
There is no incompatibility of these goals but even
mentioning what else SPS can be used for seems to
dissapate credibility fast.

- There are multiple visions of what SPS is. Most of
the people that I have met that are aware of anything
like SPS tend to think of only lifting earth
manufactured solar panels into space rather than
mining the moon. This gets quickly associated with
carbon nanotubes orbital elevators with little
progress to getting a serious discussion.

- The Apollo programs cost roughly 10% of the GDP of
the US at its height. There is nothing like this kind
of money available again for the next 20 years so any
proposals for big sums *MUST* detail the costs and
benefits in a manor that any accountant would
recognize as a good deal.

In summary it seems in the best interest of all that a
manufacturing base is built in space either on the
moon or L5 that will gradually grow to the point that
all of the other items of interest become easy to
justify. My question is how best to go about making
this a reality?
