What would you change?

One standard that will be hard to abandon is the usefulness / requirement to
have docking hatches that match with other spacecraft, to allow ease of
docking and transfer in an emergency.

I can see that the size of the docking hatches on the International Space
Station will be one standard that we are stuck with, because each subsequent
US and Russian and European spacecraft will have to be able to dock with the
ISS. The Chinese would probably have a similar docking mechanism for
compatibility purposes too.
