An amusing factoid to consider.
(8.5%), yet
there is a net influx of people into the state. For the past couple of
years
the rate of influx exceeds the slight increase in jobs, resulting in an
increasing trend upwards in the unemployment rate. The labor pool is
growing
faster than the jobs pool.
It seems that the perceived quality of life is a stronger pull than the
reality
of the economic considerations.
As a result of the net influx, property prices continue to rise, it is
the only
sector of the state's economy which is doing well.
You would think this is not a sustainable trend, but it shows no sign of
abating. From whence the unemployed people are finding the money to
pay for
the housing is a mystery to me. Today there was a case study of one
new
arrival in the local paper, he is surviving by selling his
possessions. What
he expects to do when he runs out of possesions is not explained, moving
out of
the state is not an option he is considering, apparently. I am not sure
if that
is typical.
