How romantic... sorry to be the usual cynic spoilsport, but why someone
should even think of taking birds into a habitat? Just think at the added
problems of the bloody thing dropping everywhere, nesting into air filters
and getting stuck into any particularly hard to reach gap...
For what added benefit? Sad people keeps them in a cage even on earth, so I
guess with a very special and expensive licence you may be allowed to have
those, and as for outside if you really really want to see something fly in
the sky I guess you can have robot ones.
There may be specially designed enclosed areas, like recreational parks for
example, where there may be birds for the pleasure of it, but then these
would be in captivity albeit in a large (possibly hundred meters large)
cage, so would be akin as animals in a zoo, fish in a tank or bonsai trees
in a vase, that is there won't be much for them to adjust to because that is
all they would ever know anyway.
In a sense this is true also for the inhabitants, while is easy to imagine
an ideal standard would be followed in terms of diameter and spin speed (if
you want a bigger environment just make a longer cylinder), there will be no
doubt exceptions... the people who is born and has lived there long enough
won't even notice the Coriolis effect of their own habitat, as they would
have grown so used to it that it won't be an issue, exactly like you don't
normally pay attention to the gravity on earth: for us is normal that a
thing falls more or less straight, they will expect it to fall off to the
left or right. However travellers won't be used to it, and everyone who
spend any amount of time in different conditions will have to readjust...
just think at the "land sickness" one feels when going back on land after
spending a week on a boat, go figure what it will like going back to your
centrifuge after spending a month in zero-g... ouch...
