Great Mambo Chicken

I just finished reading "Great Mambo Chicken and the Transhuman
Condition" and not knowing anything about the book before I started
reading, I was surprised to see that it featured stories about Gerry
O'Neill, Bob Truax, Keith Henson (co-founder of L-5 Society), Hans
Moravec, Bob Forward, Eric Drexler, Freeman Dyson, and David
Criswell; names that should be familiar to those of us on this list.

The book is a bit quirky, but it was fun reading about all these
people who have some connection to the things that we write about
here.

Has anyone else read this book? What were your thoughts? I think he got right to the heart of the reason for the superiority of theO'Neill Habitatidea over the planetary idea: namely that the former, being artificial, aredesigned for living, while planets come together in a much more haphazard fashion. I also found itinteresting thatO'Neill's work fell fairly far to the left on his weirdness spectrum: weirder than Bob Truax wanting to fly you into space for a profit, but not as weird as being frozen when you die.
