Harnessing this energy

You just need to spend a lot of time sifting through people until
you find someone with fire in their belly. Finding that one person
is more valuable than coaxing a hundred people to contribute. I hope
that the communications structure works well towards the success we
all desire.

I checked out your site and admire your effort. What we need to do
is find a way, just like the environmentalists did, of touching
people's everyday lives and concerns. We have to make Space as real
as a toxic waste dump, or clubbing a baby seal, and that'll get
people involved even if they don't know the science behind their
reasons. Emotion is often more powerful a motivator than logic.

Hmm, maybe an asteroid that can be confirmed to strike the Earth in
50 years ;-)

TangoMan, while sifting through huge numbers of people to find those with the proverbial 'fire in the belly' may be one approach, I feel that it is enormously labor and time intensive. It doesn't seem that that approachwill work in an effective way considering the temporal limitations imposed byventure capitalists' bugetary schedules, or the general publics attention spans. What I propose is, instead of looking for it, develop and grow it. Afterall, that is exactly what those environmental groups did to enormous success.
Of course, clubbing baby seals (har-har) is a cheap, easy, and effective tactic to arouse the emotions of the people, and it is also one that didn't require a lot of brainpower. In many ways, the environmentalists had it easy. It is far easier to play to the natural reactionary side of people with graohic imagery than it is to appeal to their reason. It seems that these days many peopledon't want to take the time or use the energy to think things through. However, what we are talking about is selling these ideas to humanity, and sales always, always work on emotion. So, how exactly do we find buzz words, catchphrases, and hot topics that would be our equivalent of theseabird covered in crude oil? Certainly a little more effort and though are required on our part (actually a lot).Again, I really believe that without serious thought and actual effort in this arena, our cause is just so much hot air (perhapsusable as alternative energy???).
