Send us some other names then, and let's talk about them. Jimmy Carter
had the OPEC oil shocks to deal with - Carter created the Department
of Energy out of the old Atomic Energy Agency to look at alternatives.
And interestingly enough, under Carter the nuclear engineer we had
our first set of real studies on space solar power - the NASA/DOE reference
study which projected feasibility for these systems right around now...
Unfortunately, under Reagan all that R&D was dropped like a hot potato;
SSP research was briefly picked up again at NASA in a small way toward
the end of the Clinton administration, but dropped again by Bush. I
wonder what all that tells you?
