Physicians are very well trained to heal the sick, but they are not
trained as scientists. My father was a physician and then became a
neuroscientist. Because of his MD he did not need to get a PhD, and
his knowledge of the body was very helpful, but his real training as a
scientist was as a post-doc in various labs, not in med-school.
