SSPS & Decentralization: A Handshake

I figured a kiss was too much to ask. ^_^

I like the idea that people can decentralize of they want, perhaps
because decentralizing is important to them. Also, it is good if
some can decentralize because it comes with the package, and the
package is something they want bad enough that the whole effort of
decentralizing is worth it to get the rest of the package. For
instance, I set up a satellite dish, not because I hate the cable
company, but because I live so far out in the boonies that there is
no cable available. Or, perhaps I set up a windmill of my own, not
to escape the tyranny of centralized power (and/or Power), but
because I live REALLY REALLY far out in the boonies, and there isn't
any electric grid out here.

Now, for those whose primary goal is decentralization When you
build your house, with it's wonderfully off-grid systems, is there
any reason you couldn't put a small rectenna on the roof or elsewhere
on the property? Then you could subscribe to an energy service that
zaps your personal rectenna with a microwave beam (maybe even a
laser). This might also work for a small planned community, like
Waterford in _2081_ (this means that there would be one extra, see-
through roof that was never opened). Hey! If the rectenna lets
light through, then you could have it, and put your PV under it, thus
maximizing the energy-gathering abilities of that roof. For that
matter, there could be really high posts, with "egg-beater"
windmills, and a roof of PV, with the rectenna over that.

I also feel that those who are happy with the grid and such shouldn't
*have to* decentralize if they don't *want to.* So perhaps SSPS can
generate the bulk of power for centralized power grids, and also
provide that "luxury power" for the decentralized folks.
