Pork Defense Tactic

Saving the Hubble Space Telescope, which is a premier scientific instrument, the best instrument there is for many tasks, is already paid for, does require operating expenses, but has the hardware completed for its next upgrade, is hardly what I would call pork. Science has been one of the most important reasons for going to space and I think this comment is way off base.

by NASA's decision, announced Jan. 16, to terminate what would have
been the fifth and final Hubble servicing mission."

"Maryland is home to two major Hubble facilities, the Space
Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore and NASA's Goddard Space
Flight Center in Greenbelt. Mikulski is the most senior Democrat on
the Senate Appropriations VA-HUD and independent agencies
subcommittee, which must approve NASA's budget each year."
