I loved that show!

I think you are right about liability issues from space junk. So often
people want it both ways -- in this case, everything they send into
space is theirs, until is causes a problem and then it isn't. Sort of a
weird tragedy of the commons problem -- where the cows are disowned when
troublesome.

Still, every crisis in an opportunity, and one person's junk could be
another person's treasure. (See also Andy Griffith in the TV series
Salvage One).

Still, what I really want to see (not necessarily that it is possible)
is a way to electrostatically (or whatever) collect space junk as well
as all the tons of micrometeorites raining down on the planet every day
-- for use in space industries.
