I posed the answer to get the poster to think about the carbon
*cycle.* The carbon must originate somewhere before it enters the
human metabolism to be exhaled as CO2.

The amount of carbon that is banked in biomatter in order to get to
the point of CO2-O2 photsynthetic equilibria is sufficiently great
as to necessitate feeding carbon into the cycle.
