Five Dollar Gas

hi all
before we get deeper into misunderstandings let's
clear some facts
fact 1-
1 liter of gas in europe, italy at least, cost right
now 1,20 euros
1 gallon is app 4 liters
that makes 4,80 euros per gallon
with the us dollar at 1,33 for an euro
gas cost more than 6 us dollars per gallon
By the way in a future space faring society we would
need a common currency and a unified standard for
weight and measures Right?
fact 2
depite that we have 36 million cars for a population
of 57 million
that make a car density as high or higher than
california and people keep using the car
fact 3 if oil prices go to 100 dollars a barrel such
figure will double to 12 dollars per gallon
fact 4 who gets the money?
the oil producing countries, most of them hostile to
our cultural values
fact 5 the existing gas is producing heavy pollution
and is depleting our natural reserves
fact 6 the auto industry keeps manufacturing gas
guzzling cars as SUVs pich ups etc
fact 7 in the last 50 years car prices remained
basically the same while tv sets where reduce ten fold
and computers even one hundred times
fact 8 such cost is due to a cartel between car
manufactures not to technical reasons since it can be
possible to manufacture non polluting cars and not gas
consuming cars at much more affordable prices
fact 9 since the industry, free market, is not
proposing any suitable product to face our present
challenges and the consumer don't have the choice,
economical not obnly techical, to select non gas
powered cars and non polluting cars, the only other
way to obtain them is to have mandatory laws that
oblige car companies to manufacture what society needs
to avoid a global disaster
cars that run on energy from renewable sources that
are safe, non polluting and economical to be afordable
to the general population.
without such rules and regulations is like living in a
society without laws not in a free market consider a
panacea to all evils which in these conditions is not
free at all but only wishful thinking.
Same reasoning apply to the oil comapnies.
It applies also to the cigarette industry which should
be the next in line to be eliminated.

No one can say for sure which technologies will solve
the energy
problem. We can all make the list of candidates
topped, ultimately,
by SSP.
I think it is safe to say that the free markets and
enterprise will
get us there -- not government or bureaucracies or
lots of
regulation.
Think of NASA, our main impediment (with congress) to
development of
commercial space. Most space launches are now made
with Russian
engines. Our space shuttle is as close to a joke as it
can get. It
is like you only had an eighteen wheeler for all your
transportation
needs -- and left the trailer at your destination each
trip. The
Russians have become more free and enterprising -- we
have become
more socialistic. The NASA bureaucracy is alive and
well -- our
space program misdirected and without goals.
For every problem government seems to solve -- they
create three
more of equal or greater magnitude and spend 1.5 times
what taxes
they receive. Govt. is our nemesis not our friend.
However enticing it is to regulate and interfere with
the "evil"
auto and energy companies -- remember the computer
revolution, early
1980's.
Left unencumbered the enterprise system will evolve a
better
solution than govt. can possibly imagine.
