The REAL obstacle to SPSS

I found this thread rather entertaining, but I will put my two cents
in just for kicks.

The real obstacle to SPSS is that they deliver energy in the wrong
form for most purposes, and the cost associated with converting to
that form is so high that no one on the planet will undertake it.

Even if electricity from SPSS were completely free, the cost of
replacing gasoline vehicles with electric, replacing gas and oil
furnaces with electric heating, cost of upgrading the grid, and
converting other equipment to electricity is prohibitively high if it
can be done at all.

Cheap electricity from space can enable the conversion, but there is
no reason to believe that SPSS electricity will be substantially
cheaper than electricity today.

I once pointed out in another post that even if electricity from space
was completely free, the 'transmission' cost is still about 10 cents
per kilowatt in my area, and is much higher in others.

The reason SPSS are not being built is because they aren't cost
effective in the short run (the only time frame most companies exist
in) and will never be cost effective in the short run.
