Hi again,
the thought of using thin mylar strips, which were spaced closely
enough so that they couldn't be easily distinguished by eye. I
forgot about the rotational velocity of the station, relative to the
fixed mirror installation.
If the station is 1 mile in diameter, and at 1G, the angular velocity
is 0.1104 rad/sec, or 6.3 degrees/second. Assuming fixed, discrete
mirrors, the individual mirrors will produce a 60 Hz illumination if
spaced every 0.105 degrees apart. This would be a total of 3413
individual mirrors. If located at about the 1G radius, much like on
a Stanford torus, this would be a 9.72 foot spacing, or about 3
meters in between the mirrors, center to center. At this spacing the
human eye shouldn't be able to distinguish the individual mirrors.
The mirror spacing can increase as the mounting radius increases.
For the 3G area of a mirror on an Island-1 type habitat, it should be
about 30 feet between centers.
There's probably other design aspects to this, but maybe it's
possible to make the entire mirror support structure blur into the
background, just by keeping all components smaller than these
dimensions.
