I think talking to environmental groups is a great idea. You might want
to start with local groups, since it's more convenient, plus you'll
receive some feedback that will make your pitch more effective. You
might even find people who can affect the group's policy at higher
levels, saving you the trouble.

I also suggest borrowing some material from the late Richard Smalley's
energy presentation; I found it convincing. There are several versions
