I understand that rejection of waste heat is a problem in vacuo.

However, the general assumption in this group and ssi_list is that
building space colonies is quite feasible given access to extraterrestrial
raw materials.

Now I ask a hypothetical: Suppose that you have the money and materials
to build a space colony, let's say, something of the scale of an Island
One.

If that were the case, then how hard would it be to build a radiator of
sufficient size to reject heat from such a structure?

It seems to me that a radiator is a fairly low-tech component. If we
have the capability to build large colonies, then building large radiators
will not be a big problem.

What do you think?

use of artificial lighting?
I'd say yes. Since in addition to the problem of absorbed light being
converted into heat (which we would have in either case), you'd also have
the waste heat from the conversion of solar energy to electricity, and
then from electricity back into light again.
