The public misperception of big technology in space is
rampant in every western country. Part of it comes
from calling the transported power "micro-waves" where
most people are only familiar with micro wave ovens
and their ability to cook food. I prefer to call the
transport beam "Short radio waves". Accurate but
without the negative connotation of cooking things.

It's usually difficult to get an audience to sit still
long enough to point out that any power transmitted
from space must be in a form that will not be absorbed
by air or water, which are the same components as
living tissue. Most people have no idea they are
simply made of Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen and
Carbon(with a little calcium for their bones). If you
can get this point across, sometimes they will
say,"OH! I didn't know that,,,DOH!)
