US DoD might study SPS

A "deathray" could be just as easily be done with a group of mirrors in space concetrating on one point like the square mile of an oil refinerey, or gasoline storage tank farm. Even an area of a parking lot filled with cars, the gas tank of each one will become a bomb with enough heat applied.

Could an effective death-ray be hidden on board an SPS?

This reminds me of the plot of "Space Cowboys", except that had MIRV's
on a weather satellite.

Somewhat related, could we openly mount an asteroid-defense weapon on
an SPS, such as a 1-kg projectile "railgun", "plasma cannons", etc. ,
that would be effective in space, but not penetrate the atmosphere?
