Does this now mean USA owns the Moon ?

This subject of ownership in space reminds me of ownership disputes in
another frontier, The Old West.

Back then the desired resources were water and grass, or the soil under
it. At first it was all open range, but the invention of barbed wire
changed that. A rancher could quickly and cheaply claim as much
territory (resources) as his men could patrol. This led to the Range
Wars: ranchers vs. farmers, cattlemen vs. shepherds.

There were similar property disputes during the California and Klondike
gold rushes.

Violent conflicts are the nature of the beast, and the beast is Man.

As I recall, Canada fared a little better than the U.S. in that regard,
as they got the power of Law, in the form of the Mounties (RCMP), out
into the frontier before most of the settlers.

As humans start mining the asteroids, comets, moons and planets, there
are bound to be disputes. They are likely to get ugly. Treaties are
only as good as they are enforced. We need to get the Space Mounties
out there first.
