Ok I know this idea sounds totally WACKED, but heit is!

Ok gang remember we were talking about radiation shielding earlier?
How about this crazy idea. We built a space habitat doesn't matter what kind. But the habitat is always taking in "organic waste" say from other habitats. The waste could be dried, heated ,pasteurized irradiated whatever. We then use the organic waste as a fertilizer to grow say algae, hay or grain. Whatever dairy cows enjoy eating and is good for them. We process the milk into cheese. The cheese is aged with a mold, most cheeses are but these molds are genetically modified to use melanin.

Because it has been recently discovered that certain fungi use melanin like plants use Chlorophyll! So we use aging cheese as a radiation shield! We could even ship the cheese around as radiation shields for spaceship moving around.
Shipping the cheese to different habitats and even deep space missions.
Can't you just see it spaceships wrapped in these container filled with aging cheese! Using the radiation from space to make the best Blue Cheese, or Swiss
or Limburger in the solar system!
