purposes of planetary defense of all things.

10x10km square SSP with the latest 40% efficient solar cells would generate
57.6GW raw power, or maybe 42GW on the ground. If we string them out every
50km in GSO, that's 4,500 satellites with space left over for other
facilities. Total orbital power 2,600TW, or 433kW for every one of the six
billion people currently alive on the planet.

Which is probably more than you need since even american society is not that
gluttonous when it comes to power usage.
