In truth, the effect the reduction in CO2 emissions the SPS would make possible would be very large in comparison to the effect of the reduction of insolation if they could be arranged to shade the Earth. So a SPS which does not shade the Earth will have very nearly as beneficial an effect as one which does. Roger Angel's EM launch system would be put to much better use enabling SPS than a simple sunshield, even if the usable power produced was not an issue to be considered.
