Also "not to mention", they ignored LAunchPoint Technologies Storage Ring, which may potentially exceed their energy density calculations by a significant degree.
I'll also note, we have designed molecular structures that exceed the energy density of hydrocarbons by a very significant margin, though at present this is in the form of explosives. Still, if we can do it for explosives, I see no reason we couldn't apply this molecular engineering to other chemical storage media.
I know of no intermediate energy storage media between chemical and nuclear but that doesn't mean we won't develop such within the next dozen years. A couple of orders of magnitude improvement would have real game changing effects.

I'll also note, from my personal perspective, an electric vehicle with a 100 mile range would fulfill ALL my personal transport requirements. I expect there are a significant number of Americans that could say the same,,,
