When I first went to Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia, in 1950(I was seven then), ARAMCO had built chilled water, evaporative, central cooling towers to provide air conditioning to all the homes and offices in Dhahran, Abqaiq and Ras Tanura. One could build such a system in ones back yard today. All you need is water, a little breeze and an evaporative tower about 7 feet tall in the back yard. The only power drawn is to run the fan for the interior heat exchanger and to pump the chilled water between the cooling tower and the house. It's several times more efficient than heat pumps,,,
