Lunar Elevator can be built today using commercial Zylon fiber.

Some people have tried to argue that the lunar mass-driver proposed by O'Neill would not work. I'm not entirely convinced they're right. But even it they were, the lunar elevator is another option. I'd agree it makes more sense to get excited about a space elevator we could build with today's building material than one we cannot. The only reason why people seem more excited about an Earth space elevator is because that's where we presently sit.
