Thread: Per "Space Colonization" and SSI's mission
Perhaps if you refer to the activity as "the birth of extraterrestrial man". "Space colonization" sounds, after all, colonial, and it sounds like earth-born folks carrying their mess into space. "Extraterrestrial man" is forward looking, focused on possibilities unique to off-earth, and allows the new residents their own future, their own kids, and their own evolutionary path in the long term. The industrial backbone for this, now more than ever, is SSP. There is no other revenuepicture that is so large, so responsive to pressing needs on earth, and so applicable to the sustained energy needs of the habitats themselves and exploratory science ships that will be sent into the solar system and beyond. I see the current private efforts at getting SSP off the ground as good demonstrators (wish them success), but the pitch must be made with some forceto government(s) to assume aleadership rolefor the sake of making large-scale space infrastructure, cheap launch resulting from economies-of-scale, energy security, and economic expansion a reality. It is not lost on me that the electronic one-wing talkers, who call global warming a hoax and empirical science a lie, are lying. That is ruinous and evil talk, it is carried forth bya factionin and around government who make orhalt policy, and they must be called on it. It is a direct cause of current public lethargy and apathy towards space advancement, without which they will perish. They refuse to see that within the problem of industrialization lies the solution that is a far better future than the one that they wish to dictate. A restoration of Fairness and Personal Attack rules in broadcasting and cable would be helpful here. Regards, Robert
