I've been talking about the importance of distance in my other
postings, so I should probably talk about the unimportance of distance
too. For launch costs, what counts is roughly mass times delta-vee.
Once you get out of earth orbit and into a trajectory that will take
you to the other side of the solar system, it costs no additional
reaction mass to get there. Once you get almost out of earth orbit en
route to the moon, you have to spend a whole bunch more reaction mass
fighting the moon's gravity if you don't want to crash.

It does remain to be seen. The material vaporized on impact, so the
volatiles are gone and the metals are somewhat dispersed. But there
probably are areas where they're more concentrated.
