Dear Group Members,
As I have an architecture-based background, I try to understand all
members knowledge and ideas, which also guides me on my own work.Now
we are working on a project here in Japan, designing a space
habitation program connected with the SPS station, founded by the
government.
My research is more based on habitation needs and opportunities for
commercial development of space through staged revenue-producing
initiatives that can be financed primarily or exclusively by the
private sector. It commences with small scale facilities for men-
tended operations in LEO, evolves to support sustainable space
tourism and creates an infrastructure of service accomodations,
spacecrafts and habitats to realize orbital settlements.
I propose a Industrial space facility. (I am preparing the images
now, I will send them to the group as soon as I have them ready) This
facility will include
- a space media laboratory
- standart 15ft diameter, 40ft long modules for habitation
- all habitation modules connected through a berting module
- a health maintenance facility
- a logistic module
- a SPS module
- a science -engineering-material test laboratory
It will be a modular structure, after the first module, the crew will
be transferred with the second mission. I would love to hear your
ideas...
Of course, the sizes of the modules are based on the launch
technology of today. No matter, how the NEO mining or LEO facilities
improve, all modules are manufactured on Earth. As the realization of
the project is based on cost-effective solutions, I was thinking to
adapt the sizes of modules to a Proton rocket, as it is the cheapest
launch option I know ...( sorry, If I am mistaken..) so the sizes
might change... Are there more cheaper launch technologies which
anyone is aware of?
As I had the chance to analyze the architecture of different space
habitation projects, creating a 1km radius habitation module, with
housing and different functions inside, is of course, not realizable
in the first stage. Pilot small-scale projects will be the milestones
for the high frontier.
Of course, there are many consumptions about lightning and
atmosphere. or rotating the whole structure to create some micro-
gravity.. but on the other hand, artifical gravity considerations
will present serious adaptation challenges, like motion sickness,
coriolis accelerations, cross-coupled angular accelerations, gravity
gradient changes (I consider this as serious problem, objects become
heavier as they move outward from the central spin axis and lighter
as they move back towards the center of rotation)...
and the space radiation, from the Van Allen belts to galactic cosmic
radiation (GCR) , can pass even through more than 1 meter aluminum.
can the idea to use water as shielding element (through installing
the water-cycle system inside the outer wall) be usefull?
