Besides, the wavelength of gamma rays is much, much smaller than that of
visible light, in such a way that it does not matter whether a material is
transparent to light or not: gamma rays will pass through just as easily;
gamma rays can pass through concrete walls. As far as I know, the presence
or absence of mass in a radiation particle is not related to its
"penetration": wavelength is. Gamma rays are photons of an wavelength
similar to cosmic rays (yes, massive particles also do have wavelengths in
quantum physics ;-).
