Ya see it went like this.

First someone asked how to build a pressure vessel, he thought it
must be difficult. Then I wrote that not only was it not difficult,
since it only had to hold 1 atmosphere, but that most designs for
colonies already had walls and windows FAR in excess of what was
needed for pressure control in order to keep out micrometeorites and
radiation. And that at least one idea had windows 40ft thick. And
things sort of took off from there, some pointing out like you that
no where near that thickness hull was needed ect.
