Who's money you gonna play with?
Thats why investors want to see worked out business plans rather than cowboy
entrepreneurs... If one wants to risk ones own cash, great...but when you
ask others to kick in as well, oops.

Look at so many Space based enterprises that figured they could just "do it"
...

where are they now? Each irresponsible failure makes it that much harder
for the serious ones to get attention and the funding they deserve.

Irridium, the anywhere phone... gone with billions of investors cash.

Mir hotel... oops.

Radio Shacks/MSN satellite internet....

Some of these had good planning. Imagine those that didn't.

Lets look back to history... it was heavy sponsorships that paid for
colonist settlement. Even many of those slipped away, even with the best
intentions, and not just money but lives as well.

John Paterson, wise and savvy enough to start the bank of England, quite a
venerable and respected institution. Pretty sound.
Yet his same intellect went into a colony attempt in the new world that was
disastrous.

Remember Roanoke? Even the colonies that DID make it with backing and the
best planning of the day was through luck not skill.
Discovering burial grounds and the indigenous resources was the only
salvation.

Any green friendly martians leave stashes of grains for us to discover and
survive with? Perhaps. You wanna bet your life on it, or anothers?

No, the proper way is not to just cowboy it up there, needs to at least give
it some decent planning to help. Even that is no guarantee of survival, (I
didn't say success, just survival)

Look at aviation... it didn't make enroads until people were somewhat
convinced that it was reasonably safe. The hot dogging barn stormers were
shut down because they created too much adventure to the skies.

One mistake can set back the concept for decades... look at airships
(zeplins). Thousands and thousands of safe air miles, one fiery ball and it
was all gone.

Look at the feeling after Challenger with the teacher event. Any more
civilians after that?
Nervous folks yes.

Do it right, look at the historical lessons before us to decide the proper
long term path.
The Brits rushed jets into commercial aviation... kaboom. They never
recovered...Prop jobs continued for years afterwards.

do it right...not as much adrenalin, but it makes more impact in the real
quest... don't you think?
