Yeah, it's not so very hard; worst case you make kiloamps by having lots
of semiconductors in parallel at a few hundred volts, switch them to get
AC and then put the current through a step up transformer. Consider that
an existence proof only though; there's probably much better ways.

The current grid system is based on the assumption that DC-DC converters
are difficult to build. That's no longer true- modern semiconductors can
do it with relative ease and very high efficiencies.
