Smells Like Teen Spirit

I certainly gave the Moon Society/Artemis Society folks credit for more
sense than the author of this Space Daily.com piece did, as I was reading
it.

I tend to agree that the various space advocacy groups are too fractured,
and their disunity doesn't serve their various causes. I expect just about
everybody would agree with that, even the members of these groups. And I
also agree to the X-Prize is an incredibly important step forward, and I
expect there's a lot of consensus on that too.

But I think this columnist (and the piece wasn't clearly marked as opinion
anywhere) unfairly characterized these groups' focus as too fanatic and
thoughtless, in his effort to reach journalistic heights. Using over-broad
generalizations and stereotypes to describe members of advocacy groups whose
positions you don't agree with only deepens the disunity and lack of
cooperation. To use the columnist's analogy, his name calling just
distracts the driver practicing for his driving test, and starts a shouting
match among the students in the back seat.
