The problems:
1) diamond thin films are very hard to produce. They are films, not
long threads. The longest tubular carbon produced so far has been in
the microns.
2) Nanotechnology is presently a dream the way fusion was in the
sixties.
3) 90% of the atmosphere is below 10 km.
4) a electromagnteic catapult of any type needs minumum 500 km to get
to orbital velocity at 50 m/s^2 acceleration.
