STS = US Space Shuttle, in NASA they call it Space Transport System
LEO = Low Earth Orbit, about 100 miles up.

oops, I though you meant matter-antimatter reactions.

Antigravity is a neat idea, but nobody knows how to implement it
yet. It is sort of like hyperspace or negative energy in that
respect. A mass driver is based on existing technology, done at a
large scale.

One thing to get used to is the scale of operations involved in
space. The Vehicle Assembly Building in Florida is so large, it has
its own weather patterns: clouds form INSIDE the building. The STS
is moved from that building to the launchpad, on a special truck that
dwarfs any human being.

If you have ever seen some of the machines built for the oil or
mining industries, you get some idea of what is presently technically
feasable. Have a look at the Arch in St. Louis, it is way bigger
than what I am proposing.
