Sorry, Joe.
than the moon.
We have
-- samples of meteorites
-- mining areas on earth that are actually craters (the astrobleme
that produces Platinum Group Metals and another from which we get
Gold and Uranium - just two examples)
-- telescopic spectroscopy (we know the content of many specific
asteroids with this)
-- gamma spectroscopy (can find Uranium with this, for one thing)
-- there have been close ups of asteroids by crafts
-- NEAR actially landed gently on an asteroid and it wasn't even
designed for landing on anything
The moon is extremely low in volatiles and metals compared to
asteroids. Only the craters provide any kind of hope to moon miners
and we know how many of these originated, no?
Helium-3 is on the moon and the asteroids, comets, rocks, and dust
particles in space.
Count on it.
As always, space is the first step.
Except for science, tourism, gambling, prostitution, and possibly
military strategic considerations, the moon is just a pure act of
foolishness and outright idiocy.
