Another issue is that our figures for the composition of the moon come
from Apollo samples. Apollo astronauts were trained by geologist to
disregard meteorites and only bring back indigenous materials. There's
every reason to expect that nickel-iron asteroids slam into the moon.
The fact that the nickel may not be indigenous is immaterial to whether
or not it is available on the lunar surface.
